This was taken at Painted Mud Pots in Yellowstone this summer. Yes, those are two birds, I think they must be, uh, married. And if you are viewing this picture...it is my first upload. Enjoy.

At first I'm thinking, "Where's the other bird?" Then I realize what's going on and what you meant by "they must be, uh, married." What a hoot! It shows you have a good eye for the not-so-obvious. I might add, however, that not all married couples would agree with your assessment. =[:o) A fun shot, well-taken, and thanks for sharing it with us. I'm delighted to be allowed to see your first submission and that it's a worthy choice.

Great first post Janelle. I like the bareness of the dead trees against the blue sky. It must be getting ready to rain because the bird is forming an umbrella to protect the other. :)

What makes this picture work for me is the tree being off-center, with the branches reaching out to the left. The sharp focus of the tree and the haziness of the clouds is a nice contrast. Very nice indeed.

haha. i'm such a doof. im not very good at reading the descriptions to the pictures so i spent 10 minutes looking for the other bird thinking you must have done some amazing angle cleverly hiding the other bird. then i look at the main bird and i'm like, wait, is that two birds? then i read the description under it. haha, married. nice.

Wonderful capture, Janelle! I especially love the stark trees and their limbs reaching out to the left, which contrast nicely with the sky! I also love Tick's description of the scene :P Good eye, and fabulous first post! :)

Nice one Janelle - the bare trees and expanse of sky give a real feeling of space.
The birds - well, lol - caught in the act :)

I always love scruffy dry trees like this. SO much character. But it's a funny thing, what caught my attention more than anything were those two wonderfully perfect holes. I just wonder what made those, and I notice there is another one up higher. I like all the comments. They sure made me smile too.
This is the first time I've gone thru your gallery. I like your style, and this first posting is fantastic. You, for sure, had a good eye for composing this photo. Welcome to caedes too. Verena
