I was taking some more photos of an Osprey high in the trees alongside a large lake when I spotted these Black Skimmers doing relays back and forth over the surface. They are fast! I was so captivated watching them, it finally dawned on me... you have a camera! Of course the settings were for the bird in the tree.

You have the birds in focus and that's what counts! They are beautiful against the green above and green below.

It looks like Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper Elizabeth. The reflections are stunning. I like the blurred forms in the water. A great capture. I do that a lot at ballgames. Get to watching and forget I have a camera when a great play was made. Oh well.
Great post.

I forgot I had my camera with me when I went to my nieces graduation, and left it 100 miles away at my sisters. I was going crazy for a week without it. Be that as it may, I like the shot of these birds. The blurred area around them makes them look like they are traveling pretty fast as you said. Nice work.

Wow, I just glad you got to capture this, to share with all of us. You must be very quick, I have been it places where I could have gotten a great shot, but I fumbled my camera. Very cool shot, and great work by you!

First - your story made me laugh! Yes, been there, camera in hand, letting the moment go by without lifting up the tool that could capture the moment forever. I think that's ok, sure we might regret it later but as soon as we put the camera up we shift the way we engage the scene, we lose "the moment" and moments can be incredibly enriching, even life altering. As to this particular shot, I love it, I am undeniably addicted to the sheen of light on water, so this one really hits my sweet spot. But, the comp is a question to me, one part of me LOVES the way the subjects are such a small part of a vast, semi-bland, space, their sharpness adds to the way they jump out of the background. But, another part of me wants to see more of them and their reflections and less of the open water. I honestly have no idea which would be better, I just recognise the choice. You did great to get the speedy little buggers so sharp! :)
Mikel.
