A member of the crow family,(Corvidae).Magpies seem to be jacks of all trades - scavengers, predators and pest-destroyers, their challenging, almost arrogant attitude has won them few friends. With its noisy chattering, black-and-white plumage and long tail, there is nothing else quite like the magpie in the UK. When seen close-up its black plumage takes on an altogether more colourful hue with a purplish-blue iridescent sheen to the wing feathers, and a green gloss to the tail. Non-breeding birds will gather together in flocks. Taken with a Canon 7D and the Tamron 70-300 VC Lens..Through a double glazed kitchen window..

See that this shot was taken before you had the severe wint'ry conditions, Richie. Think therefore the only reason for taking this image behind a double glazed window is, that the bird, although it's an impudent species, would have flown away.
Fine post though.
Regards, Cornelius.

They come always as a couple and I see them regularly around here Richie. Extremely shy too. When I open the window they are off already. Nice shot of this one.

Been looking through the birdcage for some photos I see Count B. Either that or you have had a tremendous warming spell. Our Magpies are all black. Nice and clear shot.

Heck, I can't even tell you took this through a window! If I even try to take a shot of a bird through a window in my house; I have two curious cats sticking their noses in b/c they want to see the bird too.

The clarity and details are perfect. It's a fantastic shot of this guy.

A wonderful shot, Richie, and a very clean window, as well! Congratulations on both counts. Your camera/lens combination looks like it works great. The detail is superb, and I can even see the iridescent sheen in the bird's black feathers. Well done!
