Richie, because your very detailed image shows clearly that it has only two wings, it belongs to the 'diptera'. I do suppose that it's a species of the Syrphidae family, maybe an Episyrpus Balteatus. If so, it has not only mislead its natural enemies, but some of us as well. Must say that for me, it was a 'narrow escape', lol.
