Objective: Salvage a photo of a lovely bonsai. Situation: The left side of the image was awash with sunlight while the right 2/3 of the image background was in shadows. Solution: Layer duplication >> desaturation >> eraser tool >> color range select >> cloning >> merge layers.

Joe, you did a good job correcting the lighting on this. I have a few photos in need of such a tummy tuck so I was glad to hear how you did this. :)) I enjoy the contrast between the gray and the green. The composition works well on the desktop. Nice image! - Patty

Wow. I've always loved these trees and this one looks amazing. You did a great job on the salvage. If you hadn't mentioned that it was a 'salvage job' I wouldn't've known.

Wow, I like what you did to the shot - it has good depth and the dull greys look nice also!

I would not have knowk that you had these problems. I love the way the gray background complements perfectly this tree. Beautiful image.

First saw this in the voting booth. Thought it deserved a high mark. Here I am again and finding out the history behind the image. Glad I stopped by because I do believe my thoughts in the voting booth were right on the money. Very nice image.

Someday I'm going to be able to do this, I hope! Wonderful that you explain how to do that sort of thing. I'm new at it but if I can eventually do what you did, I'll be pleased.
