I decided to get away from Utah and move east a few states to Kansas. This is south of Dodge City about 50 miles and is called Jacobs Well. A watering hole the wagon trains and cattle drives used. It has never gone dry and is about 60 feet deep. The water hole is among the trees.

The reason why the sunsets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

Fabulous capture and I'd love to take a horse on those old covered wagon trails for days on end.

I really like this one... and it has me asking some questions... Do you know what is going on with the circular green area in the background? And what is that pillar on top of the distant hill, do you know? And the trail goes right under a fence...which might have a gate on it (judging from the closeness of the posts), but I bet this is a deer trail, yes?
Lovely shot, thanks!

sharonva, since I'm in the vicinity of this place, I'll offer some help. The circular green area looks to be a buffalo wallow. Since the soil was so packed by the buffalo, these "bowls" will hold water and attract different types of vegetation. These are still to be found in many areas of the prairie that have never been molested by a plow or man. Not sure about the marker, could be a site marker or a limestone boundary marker commonly used in this country. The trail looks more like a visitor's trail than a deer trail, deer can easily jump that fence anywhere and their trails are not usually trodden so heavily.

I like that you set-up this shot with the land taking up most of the picture. It shows the expanse of the prairie.

This is a fantastic capture. The foreground. The background. The lines of nature. Just a wonderful scene.
