Why do the pictures come out square when the lens is round??

I like this kind of abstract, and there's something very alluring about that splash of very bright orange on swans. It's such a contrast with the whites and blacks on the rest of their bodies. This makes me think of one of my favourite swan shots on Caedes, HERE - you caught something of that composition but with warmer light and deeper colours.
