This is, I think, an Oystercatcher but I can't be sure as my knowledge of British birds is as bad as my knowledge of British flowers! Anyway, it and its friends were happily playing at the edge of the New Brighton Marine Lake.

I have never seen a bird like this,i do not know what it is either,the photo is very lovely,it is very cute.

It is different to the ostercatchers I am familiar with see HERE

Oystercatchers on this side of the pond are lots bigger with long legs and long beaks so I couldn't identify this little bird... he is a cutie!

I don't think it's an oystercatcher Steve - as has been said above I think it would have a longer beak. Not that I can tell you what it is! It's obviously a very tight crop on a long zoom which means there are some artefacts - a bit of chromatic aberration and loss of detail - but you did well to capture him.
