Yep I took a picture of a flower! I know, Im just as surprised as you are! This will be the first one in my gallery! Added a little softness to this hope it works for ya!
There's a lot to like in this image Paul. The color looks a little too blue all around to me and a bit too saturated. I love the composition, how the leaves and flower frame the empty view beyond. As a rule when we frame a distant view, the scene beyond is sharp and intersting. In this case, you've captured just the opposite, giving it a surreal effect which I like very much. I like that you've kept the flower to the left of the frame for added interest. At first I didn't like the overall softness of it but the more I study it, the more I like it. It's a tough call because when we have a shallow dof that draws the eye to the subject like this, we want the flower tack sharp. anne =D
Critiquing art of any kind is utterly subjective. When I vote on your images, I look at several things. First, my initial gut reaction. Then, is it straight (if it should be); is the color correct or if intentionally saturated or desaturated, was it done properly and does it enhance the image; composition - if you intended a bulls-eye, unless it's an outstanding image that is really served by centering the subject, it'll get dinged; is the horizon dead center - again, unless there's an obvious reason that makes it a better photo, no points; is the subject interesting and uncluttered; is the image sharp; is the depth of field right for this composition, is there a catchlight in the creature's eye; would I hang this on my wall; is it an image I'd be proud to display; is it artistic or just a snapshot; does it move me; is there a message conveyed; is it documentary in nature and if so, does it tell the story in such a way it makes me want more. When I critique a photo in your gallery, I'm only suggesting what my subjective nature prefers. No need to defend your position if you like your image the way it is. If you give me constructive criticism on my pieces, I guarantee you I will take them to heart. I love to improve! Bring it on Caedians! Love, anne =D
Paul, I am pleasantly surprised by your first flower post :) Much like Anne, I too am enjoying the dreamy and surreal appearance, as a result of your post processing technique. I also like the natural framing and position of the rose. For some reason I'd kinda like to see more of the background, i.e. an extension of the right side. A beautiful capture, and I look forward to seeing more foofies from you! :)
How beautifully sweet this flower looks Paul. It looks like neon and yet so very soft and bright,. I must say this is something new coming from you and I just love it!!Keep on doing it...can't wait for more Sooooon. Verena
