I'm always impressed when I see such mammoths passing by on their way to or from the port of Antwerp, Belgium. To know where we're talking about (lol) I'll give you some some figures of the ship on the right side of this image: the MSC 'Arbatax' (former 'Judith Schulte') was built at Shanghai Jiangnan-Changxing Shipbuilding and was completed in September of 2013. Its homeport is Hong Kong. The overall length is 299.00 meters (!) ; the overall beam is 48.20 meters and its maximum draught is 14.00 meters. The deadweight is 111,000 tons (!). The maximum speed is 22.2 knots (1 knot is about 1852 meters per hour). The maximum container capacity is 9,400. Impressive figures, aren't they?

I hope you'll like this image too. Thank you in advance for your comment.

A beautiful site Mr. C - I guess you have to be in the right place at the right time to capture "two ships passing in the ... water." Lovely colors, the water looks so inviting.

Very good capture of the ships Cornelius but one doesn't expect any thing less from you! Here they want to increase the depth of the Elbe channel to 14 mtrs but there is a lot of controversy about that. The many fruit farmers along the banks claim that the water will become salty and that they then cannot use it for watering their plantations.

The data you quoted, dear SEAS [aka Captain:)], show that the containership here is something like double the size of those we used to build. Our chief limitation was firstly the beam [had to be max 30 m] and draught on account of the depth of the inland way to the sea to Swinoujscie [I trust you are familiar with this port:)].
Now you got me all stirred up and lost in nostalgic memories again and I will not be able to sleep! Please expect the bill charging you with alimony etc compensations! :)!:)!
The beauty of the ships.... even such ugly spinsters like containerships:).

My my, that is a huge one...
I just recalled that as we have been building number of ships for Schulte Reederei, we have also had delivered at least one Judith Schulte. Only small step-sister, like Cinderella:)

I love seeing the ships on the ocean when I go to Delaware. They make good subjects for me to shoot because they aren't moving very fast and I can keep them in focus...if I hold real still! LOL. Excellent shot, Mr. C. You had a beautiful day to get this fantastic shot.

Oh my goodness those are some big numbers, at least he could come through the locks up here on the St. Mary's River (Soo Locks), on the Michigan side.

Gorgeous action shot, boy looking at the big one he sure puts up a much bigger wave then the smaller one. Beautiful colours and detail

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
