The Dutch lightship 'Texel' (Lightship No. 10) was built in 1951 by the Rijkswerf (governmental shipyard) 'Willemsoord' in Den Helder. The ship was in service from September 30th, 1952 to early 1992. Since 1996, the lightship has been moored as a museum ship in the museum harbor of Den Helder.

Amazing when you think about it while in service, it provided safe passage for ships at sea and now provides service as an educational museum piece.

Same here...I didn't know there was such a thing as a floating lighthouse. Instantly I noticed the red ship standing out and then the lighthouse on top...that was amazing. Good capture, Cornelius.

From my days as a cadet the Texel light vessel was a familiar sight for me. Like everything else light vessels are being replaced with buoys. Nice shot of this real old timer Conelius.
