Under the railway in Middelburg, Zeeland, The Netherlands, there's a bicycle tunnel connecting the streets 'Kanaalweg' and 'Segeerssingel'.
The in Middelburg living artist Liesbeth Labeur has created there, on the occasion of the contemporary art festival Façade 2022 an artwork. She has tiled in cobalt blue the sentence: 'Geen oord ter wereld meer', referring to the Zeeland anthem 'Geen oord ter wereld meer beschermd door dijk en duin' (No place in the world is protected more by dikes and dunes than ...). The text is placed on the wall in the wide curve of the tunnel. One meter high, in total about eighteen square meters.
One has Liesbeth confirmed already that the the tiles can stay in place after the festival has been ended, so Middelburg has gained a new contemporary artwork there.
Liesbeth says: "It's a serviceable work of art, 'serviceable for the climate and nice for people who like the Zeeland anthem."
