This is a picture of a replica of the DEIC (Dutch East India Company) vessel 'Amsterdam'.

The original 'Amsterdam' was built (completed) in 1748, but was wrecked only about one year later in the English Channel during a storm.

The replica was built by 300 volunteers (both using modern tools and original ancient tools as well) between 1985 and 1990. It's moored now next to the Netherlands Maritime Museum in the city of Amsterdam.
