Sometimes our expectation of nature's beauty doesn't meet the reality. This view, which includes Mt. Washington, used to be full of a lush, vibrant forest of pines, cedar and fir trees until a few summers ago when a lightning strike caused a huge fire that took it all out. It's coming back, but slowly. And it has a new style of vibrancy. High Cascades of central Oregon, US.

I love the pattern in the trees. Nicely done, and great composition.

Great capture, it is sad to see it like that though, so much was lost.

Beautiful shot of Mt Washington and the burn in the Cascades. A very sad thing to happen yes...but so good its coming back, and I'm glad you got it at this time., It will remind us all when it comes back how happy we should be about it..verena

Lightning strikes are one of nature's paths to a cleansing and rebirth for forests, Ted. From seeing huge areas of burnt sticks in Glacier National Park I discovered that the seeds in pine cones require high heat to kick-start their germination; without a forest fire, new trees cannot start. One of the images of Glacier I plan to (re)submit is of an old forest fire with a thick carpet of bright green mini-pines, averaging about 18" high. So what you've captured here is stage in the process of life in the forest and not an actual disaster. So cheer up,already! :o)
