Walking along the river wall, we ran across this fellow with a baguette ripping off pieces and throwing them high into the air for the seagulls to catch. If they missed, one of their buddies picked it off the river surface. This one caught his. Portland, Oregon, USA.

Nice grab... for you and the gull. These birds are incredibly food-oriented. While visiting the old brick lighthouse at the northern tip of Michigan's southern peninsula, at Mackinaw City, my son and I watched a woman feed something to a single gull, then realized her mistake. By the time she made it to her car, about 70 yards away, she was almost hidden in a swarm of them. It was literally a scene out of Hitchcock's "The Birds".

Terrific action shot! The focal clarity, as well as the lighting and shadows, on the bird itself are excellent. With just enough blur in the image to express the fast-paced motion of the event.

It's a fun image and makes me smile.
