A pretty pair of Tiger Lilies for your Friday Foofy enjoyment.

Here are some facts about the Tiger Lily:

The Tiger lily is sometimes called the Ditch Lily, as it is commonly found growing in the wild, in ditches. The Tiger lily is edible, but the pollen is said to be poisonous. The bulbs, which taste like potatoes, are popular in Japanese cuisine. While it is safe for humans to consume these flowers, tiger lilies are toxic to cats and can cause vomiting, kidney failure, lethargy and even death. In the language of flowers, tiger lilies represent wealth and prosperity. There is a superstition that smelling tiger lilies will give you freckles. There is a history of medicinal use of tiger lilies.

I think this song says everything I see when I look at this pair of Tiger Lilies.
All they need is a couple of love birds to stop by.
A wonderful shot Laura.

Tiger Lilies are definitely prosperous :)

They are almost invasive when grown in gardens.

We love when traveling in the summer and see the ditches along the highway appear as if they are on fire due to the abundance of 'ditch lilies'.

Awesome capture!

---Hold That Tiger!!!---

Laura, I can't fulfill this request because of two reasons: they aren't in a cage (lol) and they are wonderful.

Thanks for this excellent Foofy Friday shot. Well done.

PS: thanks for an interesting narrative as well.

I have photographed tiger lillies many times but never thought about eating them! Very beautiful shot of the flowers and they stand out so well against the green Laura.

A very pretty photo of these twin tiger lilies Laura. It amazes me that so many of the things growing around us have not only medicinal value, but also poisonous traits. The two live together in many plants - one just has to have knowledge of their worth and caution for their deadly deeds.

The way you captured them makes them look like they are floating in the air while holding petals...kind of a flower version of jelly fish floating in the ocean. Beauties they are and you gave a nice story to go along with them. Good job Laura.
