This is an old Western Digital hard drive I stripped from one of my computers that had become obsolete. This particular hard drive was removed from one of my favorite computers that I had built years ago - she was referred to as the "Old Gal." The capacity of this hard drive is 80Gb and at the time I wondered what I was going to do with all that storage space LOL!!! Time has passed and today computer storage devices are measured in Terabytes or stored in The Cloud. Most of us don't give a second thought as to what the inner workings of a hard drive would look like. I think it's cool to see the platters and read/write head revealed. This drive still retains its functionality, in a sense, and has become an interesting conversation piece. Today, it is proudly displayed on a shelf in my home office. Hope you like it!!!

You might guess what I'm about to say...this would make a super contest entry...and what a great idea being we all use some kind of computer and storage space...good for you thinking of this while the rest of us didn't...good clear shot too...best of luck if this be your entry.

I have had many computers over the years, too, but I never tore apart a hard drive. This is a unique shot, Laura, and it will make a super entry to the Circle contest...if you use it. Excellent work.

Bravo for your creative photo and title, Laura! I like it and it makes a wonderful entry for the current contest. I wish I could upgrade my memory...which tends to slip occasionally. Fantastico!

I like this post very much. This would be a great entry for the 'Circles' contest Laura.

I've read your narrative with very much interest and some nostalgia as well. The hard drive of my first PC had a capacity of only 20MB. To me, it was a miracle! I remember that, before to switch off the PC, I had to park the heads by giving the instructions for that manually, lol. Now my laptop and my DT both have a storage capacity (internal and external HD's) of many, many TB's.
I realize now that times fly by that fast.

If this would be your entry: Good Luck with it my friend.

You built that computer youself! That impresses me Laura. The only thing I have done is to change parts like Graphic card or RAM or DVD player etc. Nice souvenir and a great entry for the contest.

I'm impressed with you skills Laura. I used to be afraid to mess with my computer because I was sure I would lose everything.
I still am, but not as much.
Excellent contest entry.

Being a bit of a techie I love this shot, I still use hdds for programmes and data storage but reserve ssds for the OS.

I've had all our DT computers custom built Laura by picking all the components myself but I don't do the actual build work - although I always remove the hard drives and destroy them. This is very interesting and quite the conversation piece and would be an excellent entry.

I see you've added this pic to the comp Laura a good choice, not that the other one was poor by any means. It's good the ladies are getting into PC stuff these days, wish you all the best with this one.

A good close up on the old hard drive. You realize you've voided the warranty, lol. Best of luck in the contest.
