While taking a walk through the monastery two weeks ago I spotted this wasps nest in a tree about 12 feet above the footpath - at this time of the year the nest is not active and has been abandoned - the wasps will not use this nest and will build a new one next year in which to raise their young - it's interesting to know that the nest is made of what's known as wasps paper - they chew wood pulp and other plant debris and mix it with their saliva in order to construct the nest - I find them to be fascinating creatures and I always make sure I keep my distance when they are active in the spring and summer months.

A perfect find at the perfect time, Laura. The latter because of the abandoned nest, 😁 !
Very interesting too, not only because of this capture, but because of your well documented narrative too.
Very good work again!

If you think you can't accept something, try to change it. But if this doesn't work, don't be frustrated, but give it later another try. The one who perseveres wins! Please CLICK HERE to see my journal! Feel free to save my images or to add them to your favorites.

I learned something new,I did not know that is how they made their nests. Some years ago, I was with some friends and they found a wasp nest and wanted to keep it so since I was in the back seat I held it for them. Well later on they informed me it was still active! Which at the time none of us knew that. I sure won't do that again! :) Good one of the huge nest! tigs=^..^=
