This is a photo taken roughly 1945 of my dad (second from left) somewhere in the south pacific on an island. He was in the navy but posed with these fellow soldiers who were getting this plane ready for another bombing run. I haven't changed or enhanced it in any way.......sometimes old photos tell a story and the age is part of it.....so I just left it alone. :) This is for all the veterans on this day and all the servicemen and women who served their country proudly, both past and present. We should never forget. J

A wonderful tribute John. My dad was in the Army and Navy and was shot down once and was in a raft adrift for 3 days in the pacific with some other comrades. Thank you for caring and sharing this!!

Thanks, John - too many people simply take this day off and never really give any thought as to what the day is for. And thanks for sharing this cool pic with us -

I think the children of this day and age should have scholl lessons to emphasize just what they went through!....

Nice post!

I am glad you left it as is John. It is a great shot. It does tell a great story. I just need to figure out what all the symbols mean on the side of the plane. I know it has to do with bombing missions but I think there is more to it then that.
Thanks for sharing and I join you in your well wishes for the veterans.

yes, there's nothing quite like old photographs: there's a certain aura they carry, they say that they've been there. I think that today's photographs lack this quality, maybe it's because there's just too many of them. Thank you for sharing.

Putting your pictures in my favorites is the highest honor I can give you. If I could, I would give you an award. But alas, I cannot. So the highest praise I can award you with, is faving your artwork.

My dad was in the Navy and in the south Pacific too... This image gives me a bittersweet feeling... it was only when he was in his eighties and fighting a losing battle with dementia that I began to ask him about his experiences. He died in 2004 but my love for him continues to grow. Thanks, John.
