.."you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." Well by now you know how much I enjoy the secular side of the Christmas season. But just as important or even more so is the TRUE meaning of Christmas; the birth of the Christ child. This nativity was given to me as a present a few years back. Forgive me for not knowing the country of origin of it, but probably Mexico or Central America, or possibly Brazil. It is made out of a gourd, believe it or not, split in half and with hand carved & painted figures. It is hinged with a small leather strap holding the halves together. I will post the other half shortly. Thanks all for your viewing & comments!!

Your really good at capturing this sort of thing. Perfect colors and exposure. Indeed, this IS the most important side of Christmas. Too bad it isn't the ONLY side. Nice work.

Dan this is really well presented - both in composition and sentiment. You've given this little scene perfect exposure - actually looks like a glowing cave. Nicely done. anne :-)

Don't tell me it's good, tell me what is good about it. Don't tell me it stinks, tell me what I can do do improve it. Thank you for taking the time to tell me anything at all. Be blessed. anne :-)

Perfect capture Dan in detail and clarity. Sometimes people get so caught up (myself included) in the hustle and bustle with trying to find the "perfect" gift that sometimes the real reason of Christmas is forgotten isn't it?. This is the perfect reminder of what Christmas is all about. Thank you Dan for posting this.

What a wonderfully delightful gift! I love brightly colored folk art. My daughter has a whole collection os Oxacan items from Mexico, but this could be from further south of the border. I love the figures and the whole idea of being made from a gourd. Wonderful post, Dan!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes
