This place was at one time a farm. Now all that remains is the tower of the old windmill, and the trees that used to provide shade and a windbreak to the farmhouse. It is now just a spot along the road trapped between an interstate highway and another road. Thanks for viewing and commenting!

It just looks so barren and lonely now. Such a bittersweet reminder of the life, laughs and love that once filled this area here. The misty look does indeed give it a sense of loneliness as Don stated. You've captured this emotion just perfectly Dan. A very moving capture.

I love these country scenes & to think at one time someone called it home. You captured this so well Dan ... the windmill does look lonely, but yet still is a dignified structure. Thank you for sharing.

It is always funny for me, that there is so much land, that people just give it up. The landscape does indeed look lonely for me. Or is it the foggy weather? Very nice shot.

Since I know a little about No. Dak and not much about So. Dak if it is anything like your northern neighbor I could well imagine how isolated and alone one might have been out here on this now abandoned farmland. I have been in the Heritage Center Museum in Bismarck and read the accounts of how women, especially, went mad because they were so isolated from their neighbors...who knows? It is interesting to make up stories based on those diaries of real people who suffered real trauma out there on the prairie...now that was morose..lol ...I guess you got your point across very well in this excellent upload :)PJ

Winter is a _____, isn't it? I hate it. One has to really work to find a worthy image around here. The stark lonliness of this area is striking. I think the focus could have been better but none the less, the message gets through. Good post.

Boy ya really let the place go ta hell Dan, even your windmill's about to fall over. LMAO Shoudda got ya a Home Depot card for Christmas I guess. LOL Nice job buddy, we have alot of old farms that no longer are active around here too. It's ashame the small operations can't compete anymore with the big commercially run jobs.

LOL! John is making me laugh and cough!!! lol! well it does look very barren here Daniel and has gone to rack and ruin - what a shame! but in the Spring I guess it will look pretty. It's a bit blurry like in a dream - or am I dreaming - I never know these days! Your picture conveys all that you are saying about it and for that I say good job my friend! Patti zzzZZzz

This image does have a feel of desolation and loneliness. The muted tones and the fog seem to emphasize that idea. You have captured that very well.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Dan I just saw this in the VB and wanted to find out more about it. I really like how you captured that lonely feel. It has a soft look and feel to it. I think its just wonderful. One of the many disapearing farms. Sandi
Happy New Year too!
