College Fjord, Alaska, USA. The Wellesley Glacier is small by Alaska standards, being only 1/2 mile wide and 4 miles long. It is interesting that green foliage grows to the edge of the ice mass, and the glacier has a large push moraine on the north edge and a smaller one on the south edge. The water color is caused by the large amounts of glacier silt. (Some might want to crop this image to the glacier; I wanted to show it in the perspective of the rugged mountain that separates it from the Vassar Glacier - no cropping was done.) Enjoy!

Impressive, Thad. If that is half a mile wide I can imagine how big the rest is. Good contrast between the glacier and the green covered mountain.

I like the uncropped version - more size perspective.

This looks great as it Thad. No cropping needed at all. It looks a little flat, perhaps a touch of contrast would help. I feel bad saying anything negative about one of your shots from Alaska.

Thad, even with your narrative, it's pretty hard to get a proper idea about its dimensions. And it's even a small one!
Very impressive post again.

Was there a UMASS glacier up there, Thad? lol This one is a beauty and all the green makes it looks so warm and lush, yet all that ice is clinging to the slope. I like that you left the water and the surroundings for a full view. Absolutely amazing and wonderful!

Thad...

Do you remember the original "Time Machine" movie from 1960? Do you remember how he sat in his time machine and watched the changing of days, then seasons, then centuries. I would love to have a time machine and watch this glacier flow like a fast moving river. Since we don't have any time machines, perhaps you could return with your tripod and take the same shot every 10 years for 10,000 years.

With a clear view of the conifers near the water's edge, you've captured the mass of this glacier perfectly. Except for producing Sarah Palin, Alaska is quite a place. Consider me your fairy godmother as I grant you one "fave".
