Williamsburg, Virginia, USA. His formal name, Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de Lafayette, was commissioned as a military officer at the age of 13. At the ripe old age of 24, he led troops in the Siege of Yorktown that led to the end of the military conflicts in the American Revolution. Troops were mobilized in Williamsburg and marched the thirteen miles to Yorktown. When he returned to France, he was elected a member of Estates-General, wrote the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, with help from Thomas Jefferson. Upon his death, he was buried in a cemetery in Paris under soil from Bunker Hill. A reenactor portrays the Marquis in this image.

I really like this one Thad, the personality of both horse, and rider really come through. I also enjoyed the well written narrative.

A nice capture of the actor in that role Thad. The original Marquis de Lafayette could not have had a normal childhood.

Very interesting narrative with a accompanying image. When I was 13 years young I was at school and I played in my free time with friends. What a difference Thad, lol.

He is either happy in his role, or happy to have you take his picture. Excellent shot, Thad.

Brings to mind: "What's in a name," Thad. There is a lot in this name. I like the info and the photo that brings it to life.

He's a really colorful character in history and the Battle of Yorktown, a 3 pronged attack.

The composition in this image is wonderful, including the house on the right that adds interest and the expressions of the horse and the rider. Lots of color and detail.

Very good image!

Marquis sounds like a very successful gentleman throughout his career. I can only imagine the reenactment was very fascinating & impressive. Wonderful capture of the actor & horse ... they both seem very proud to bring a time from the past come to life.

Right into my favs this one went, love the look the horse is giving you and the camera, I must say the rider is holding his reins a little tight and see they are using the Snapple bit.

Ok now the capture is Fabulous and amazing detail in that uniform and he has a great smile

This led me to do a little (computer) research on the man. We usually think of him in terms of American history. But he was also a very major figure in French history. The massive activity he packed into his life is truly amazing. He lived to 76, which is also amazing considering his perpetual state of conflict. He seemed to be an idealist through and through. Nice picture by the way.
