Jamestown, Virginia, USA. The original fort was three-sided, with upright posts with ends buried in the ground and pegged boards near the top to stabilize the wall. The fort was expanded at least twice. All that remains of the palisade logs now are stains in the soil. Seen here is a reconstruction of a palisade.

Looks a little like the reconstruction of Fort Stephenson we had in town a couple years ago. Nice angle on this, Thad.
