Yorktown, Virginia, USA. A line of American cannons, behind the trench wall dug in the night of September 28, 1781. These cannon were capable of firing a ball several miles - the distance needed to land in town, where the British were encamped. Farther along the line are mortar and howitzer cannons.

Our French friends helped us with the capture of Yorktown by sealing off the harbor with their fleet. Following the hostilities, over 7000 British soldiers surrendered.

I wouldn't want to face a barrage of cannon balls down-field. Good one, Thad.

They used the telescopic lens on these Cannons, Thad.
I bet it was smoky around there during the battle.
Wonderful depiction of the firing line.

Very interesting image again Thad. The rings on the gun carriages were designed to tie down the cannons to prevent them from driving backwards too far when shooting.

I did not know they could shoot that far either. Interesting narrative Thad and good lines all in a row.

I had no idea that any cannon could fire a shot several miles. I always thought a few hundred yards was about what they could do. WRONG! Great looking shot, Thad.
