La Jolla, California, USA. In 1931, Ellen Browning Scripps paid for a sea wall to be built atop several rocks, providing a protected area for the children of La Jola to safely swim. Nearby are strong currents, with this area safe from those with the wall. Over time, the area filled with sand and seals selected it as a place to sun, bathe, and birth. Sorry kids, the seals have the run of the place now.
