Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA. A number of red galls growing on a tree. Its not what the tree wanted, but the gash provided the host for them. Nature at work.

Fine detailed capture of this natural phenomenon, Thad.
If the tree was able to understand the human voice, I would have said to it: "That's life." Probably its reply would have been: "I don't agree with you, so help me to cure this 'wound'." (😜 !
