This was taken from my deck during a blinding snowstorm the other day. There were 11 male Cardinals and 10 females feeding. This guy is looking up, wondering how he will ever find room at the buffet table! Many, many thanks to Doug (AlphaDog) who helped me with some slight post-editing due to the low light conditions that I shot in. Critique/comment friendly format. All are welcome. Thanks and enjoy :~)

So beautiful Mimi. The centered composition works well with your deck rail. The snow gives the image some blur. I like the inner glow although the lines extending in from the corners are a bit distracting. A great holiday image:-)

This is very beautiful...of course the red with the white is perfect..a blinding snowstorm? wow..Ive gone thru some of those when I used to live in North Dakota..in 40 below zero weather..but I was snug inside..I like this photo very much, but i do wish those lines were not there going out to the corners, it makes the birdie look like he is in a box...but other than that its a grand picture!!

Hi Mimi ! Love this image, nothing like that bold cardinal red in a snowstorm, is there ? I don't mind those lines from the snow at all, or the edging, I like your whole shot. A very pretty image !

Mimi, an absolutely fabulous capture! The softness around the edges works so well with the almost white-out snow storm. Well done!

What a beautiful enigmatic image Mimi. Now why would any self respecting bird be out in such a storm.

What a beautiful shot, Mimi. I like the red of the poor fellow against the background. In such weather conditions I realize how hard to survive is. What a life! Thanks for sharing your lovely picture.

Mimi, I really like how this turned out. The slower shutter acutally brought out the direction and adds to the intensity of the snow fall. I really like how the snow direction and the cardinal are perfectly vertical. He looks uncomfortable but defiant.

I have found a beautiful holiday image that will serve my desktop well all winter for that matter. I can safely say a new all-time favorite of yours for my tastes. The contrasts are wonderful. I love the centered shot with the soft framing that gives it a subtle depth as well. Unique and appreciated. ;)

Absolutely lovely. This is a really great picture. I sure that poor little guy was able to get into the buffet too. Fabulous border and the capture of snow falling is wonderful. Great, great image !!

Wonderful closeup and capture of this most beautiful of birds, Mimi...I hear them around me but seldom see them and certainly not so close as to get a good shot like this...had it on my desktop one day when I had no time to stop and comment...good job, my friend, and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours.:Pat.

Christmas is just plain weird. What other time of the year do you sit in front of a dead tree in your living room eating candy and snacks out of your socks?

That beautiful natural soft filter wiped out any distraction in the backgroud and still left you a lot of detail and color impact. Great seasonal shot

Very beautiful Mimi! I wonder and am amazed at how such delicate birds survive in such conditions that we'd surely perish in! I love cardinals! This is just gorgeous!

Mimi, I've used this image as a desktop at least 25 times since you first posted it and it just keeps drawing me back.
Of all the images I've saved over these last few years this is the one that I keep coming back to.
It's 23 degrees F this morning and I think I'm going to use it again.
I never put it as one of my favorites but I'm going to right now.

Hi Mimi,
Ran across this one while rummaging around the site. Somehow, I missed seeing it. This is fantastic. This image causes a reaction in me and when an image does that, you have been most successful. The thought of this poor bird getting pummeled by the snow really moves me. Thks so much for providing food for them. Great image and a keeper.

Any photo that has a Cardinal as the centerpiece is going into favorites. I found this while looking at your gallery. I'm fairly new to site so I'm just learning. Great post and composition. Hope Redbirds aren't left out this year.
