I found this in one of my older files, and as I've never thought of posting this, because I really struggle with people shots, it's been sitting on my computer for quite a while. Thanx to the inspirational posts of Darryn (dmk) I went digging and playing around with B&W (also not one of my fortes) so, please bare with me the next few days, when I'll be trying this out. Please also feel free to leave comments and critiques, as I really want to go for this kind of shots more often, but don't know where to begin.

I think you did a fantastic job but I'm not one to really evaluate this kind of image, but for me it works well.

Beautiful Marietha. I really love the editing you have done on this. B/W really makes it pop. I don't know much but I wonder if a little soft focus might make the plight seem more real. Just a thought. Excellent.

Finely montaged, Marietha and portraits seem more poignant in black and white. I wish you could tell us more about these people because your title alludes to it and I am just wondering.

I will add more info about the series I am doing right now.. as Cindy suggested above.

I am working in my brother's company (a burial/funeral society) which are mainly servicing the black community of our area. We are focusing a lot on the young kids and the older people when it comes to doing charity work. As I am in charge of the company's newletter, I go out to the schools and centers for disabled kids and old people, to take pictures when we do functions for them. There are such a lot of poverty and heartache between them, when you drive into the rural areas, one just realise again how fortunate we are to have what we have.. simple things like running tap water in our houses, toilets, and clothes. There are such a need in some of these rural villages for just the bare neccessities, that it's always heartbreaking for me to go there.. you see those little face looking at you .. they never complain.. they are just to happy to get something.. even if it's only a slice of cake and a play ball.. or a pat on the back and a smile.. to show you care..
Therefor I will dedicate this series to all of those people out there.. that will probably never ever know what running tap water and flush toilets are.. things we take for granted..
Thanx a lot for all the comments and help with these picture

Kind Regards

Great collage Marietha. Thanks too for the additional info as requested by Cindy. Does me realize again that a lot of things have become 'common' in our part of the world. Don't mean however only luxery goods, but fresh tap water, clothes, toilets and so on. Great that you've dedicated this series to the people as can be seen in your collage. Very well done!
