Later in the day after the "Control Tower" shot I got more than I bargained for in this pic of a Monarch on a Sunflower at eyelevel. That little bee came out of nowhere. Seeing this on my computer I was amazed to see the bee had entered precisely in the same focal plane as the butterfly.

Perhaps this intruder was thinking ..."Get off my flower ya big oaf. What you need is good swift kick in the butt ... and I'm just the guy to do it"

Beautiful shot - The flower is lovely and the two competing "suitors" make the picture a real winner! You can wait all day for weeks to get another shot like that and you won't!

This picture is a knock out. I like the bug action going on and the color that the butterfly adds to the look of your shot. The Sunflower is just so radiantly beautiful. Quite a loud statement that flower is making. I'm glad you only included that portion of the flower thus making the eye focus in on the bug action and the clear as can be center of the flower. The background is nicely out of focus. Great one.

Hello John.....Despite their small size, butterflies are some of the World's most wondrous insects. Their beauty, and carefree flight all spark our imaginations.....John, this is a superb picture and I must say the c-index should be higher.....Here is a tip...if you spray sugary water on the plants you will find that the butterfly will stay around longer giving you more time to take more great photos like this one....All the best....Mick.

Oh John..I must say this is one of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen of this lovely Monarch butterfly. The colour of it against that precious sunflower is absolutely beautiful!
I am so glad you took this photo. I've seen them flitter around huge 10 foot sunflowers I used to have, but never saw one land..so I thank you for this..Verena
