Hungry Mother State ParkThe Legend of Hungry Mother[edit] It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names.[3] A legend states[4] that when the Native Americans destroyed several settlements on the New River south of the park, Molly Marley and her small child were among the survivors taken to the raiders base north of the park. They eventually escaped, wandering through the wilderness eating berries. Molly finally collapsed, and her child wandered down a creek. Upon finding help, the only words the child could utter were "Hungry Mother." When the search party arrived at the foot of the mountain where Molly had collapsed, they found the child's mother dead. Today, that mountain is Mollys Knob (3,270 feet), and the stream is Hungry Mother Creek. Compliments of Wikipedia....

I imagine that this park is located down the street from Famished Fathers State Park. Lovely framing in this one, Rita.

Now where did that name come from? The mothers were probably not human but animal mothers. Nice composition, clarity and colours in this image.

Very inviting Rita, as the door (although a back door) is wide open, lol.

Wonderful composition resulting in a very fine landscape image. Perfectly done my friend!

There are probably a few hungry Aunt's too, so don't sit on the ground.
It looks like a big picture window, Rita.

Instead of the ususal signage, you have the wooden frame welcoming visitors to the park!!! That's so cool:-):-):-) Beautiful image - I like the partially frozen lake and dramatic sky. Nice work - well done!!! p.s. enjoyed your narrative as well.

A very interesting narrative Rita and I like the "frame" within the shot very much.

Such a sad bit of history as per your narrative. It just seems there is always going to be oppressors and those that are oppressed. Always innocent victims in the middle of it all. It is a nice tribute to that time and now the scenery can be enjoyed. Beautiful shot with the sign framing the park. Good one Rita.
