Oh, you did this one, too? You have the soul of an artist, Nikki. While voting tonight I saw both of these (the other was your Toronto skyscrapers) close together and gave them both high marks. This one reminded me of some of the great classic black & white movies of the past century (like Henry Fonda's courtroom drama, "Seven Angry Men"). Some people might suggest you remove that heavy black pillar on the right... don't... it creates a strong balance with the shadowed corridor on the left, the passage between the pillars. Your positioning of that corridor on the left, framed by the advancing pillars, gives an architectural motion to this photo that wouldn't be as strong if you had centered the corridor. Plus, shooting it with the birds and people, both entities rather casual in respect to each other, is an excellent contrast to the massive and highly-structured pillars. Black & white photography, to me, has always carried emotion, introspection, and mood much better than color (I lived in the darkroom with b&w film when I was in college, a looooong time ago), and many people try it but fall short. You have certainly succeeded with this one. It has a classic and classy style to it. Another one for my favorites file. Thank you.
If you've ever wanted to make a difference but found it hard to believe that one person could... check out the Kiva Team Caedes discussion thread and discover that anything is possible.
