okay, so I admit Robert Frost came to mind... but what made me brake the car rather suddenly, hop out, and start taking pictures, was the dichotomy between the warm orange of the sun setting behind the ridge of trees and the deep blue shadows beginning to fall across the snow... fire and ice mingling for one brief moment, and then dissipating...

Sometimes, my friend, I wonder if there is a site where you can upload pics and when you do your narrative counts as part of the package, because as good as your photo is, it only becomes sweeter after reading your description that invites the viewer in to look closer and empathize with your struggle to capture it and to view the contrasts of warm and cool light.

That's what happened to me when I experienced your upload and I'm glad I was here.

Superb! I love the colours and composition.
At a large size it seems to lose much of the thumbnails quality though, I guess because of the low light and shadows?
Lovely image otherwise.

I can see your car sliding sideways as you came to abrupt halt. Were you wearing seat belt? I'm with PJ, I can feel your excitement on taking this shot and it spills over into the photo itself. I too like the orange/blue contrasts even though I'm not a Bronco's fan. lol I would take the high road even though it doesn't look the safest. I like the little patch of green crashing your party. Good photo, Mary and Happy New Year.

Well, I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that the colour palette and composition of this shot are wonderful! The only thing I would suggest is that you take out some of the colour of the bright green conifer branch in the top right, as it detracts a little - I guess it has picked up too much flash. Otherwise a stunningly good shot.

Love the time of the day which enriched with blue shadow and pyromania skies a perfect composition.
