The Beauty Of The Monarch

Braved a somewhat cloudy, and breezy day but knew this monarch was hanging out still at the Calendar gardens, and had to go back for more pics.

Used the trusty Canon 70-200mm f/4L lens, with the kenko DGX 1.4x converter.

I added no color to this one, I did not think it needed it. Cropped, and sharpened, and that is about it.

Their time is numbered here, and I'm going to miss them.

Thank you for your comments.

Bright and colourful, the Monarch looks really regal, Sandi. A very beautiful butterfly image.

Stans roses and your butterfles means summer to me. A great capture as usual Sandi. The color is top notch and for you not to have done anything to it just shows your expertise.

Excellento (that's Spanish for excellent). Great job on this...I never see Butterfflies...I guess that's what happens when one primarily does landscapes, you tend to look beyond many photo opps. I'm trying to change that but it's difficult.

They are a beautiful orange to start and this is the best monarch I've seen here in quite awhile.

---Their time is numbered here, and I'm going to miss them---

Sandi, I have read that the end of October, the population east of the Rocky Mountains migrates to the sanctuaries of the Mariposa Monarca Biosphere Reserve within the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt pine-oak forests in the Mexican states of Michoacán and México, so there is some time left to make some more wonderful images. Think however that it will be prety hard to capture a better one than this one.

Thanks for this excellent post.

Regards, Cornelius.

The natural colour is warm and deep so a good choice to keep this natural look. A wonderful photo, excellent work! Mich

I feel so bad for you, Sandi. Imagine my horror when I read that you "Braved a somewhat cloudy, and breezy day". It amazes me what you will sacrifice for your art. Do me a favor. Call in sick for the rest of the week and send me the doctor's bill. :-)

Seriously, you really have a way with those butterflies. With no water and nothing green or blooming, there are only a very few butterflies around here indulging themselves on a few scattered drought tolerant wild flowers. In three years I've only managed one butterfly shot. It was a dying monarch that had just bounced off of a windshield.

Beautiful colors and fine job of non-editing.
