One from the Calendar garden again. :) Here is a bit of info on this lovely addition to the garden.

It is thought that the eyespots of the Common Buckeye Butterfly may be used to scare away predators. The Common Buckeye Butterfly prefers open, sunny areas with low vegetation and some bare ground. Males perch during the day to watch for females, flying periodically to patrol or to chase other flying insects. Females lay eggs singly on leaf buds or on the upperside of host plant leaves upon which the caterpillar feeds (including plants from the snapdragon, plantain and acanthus families). Adult butterflies live for about 10 days. The Common Buckeye is found throughout the southern United States and north along the coasts to central California and North Carolina; as well as south to Bermuda, Cuba, and southern Mexico.

Thank you for the views, and comments.

Wonderful crisp clear delight Sandi as usual. I am a true fan of your photo work, no matter what it may be. Your attention to detail is outstanding. Love the narrative here too.

Don't see these here, Sandi. I agree, I think the spots look like eyes to predators. Nicely captured and the contrasts are good making him stand out amidst the darkened tones of the background colors.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I wonder if there are a lot of those in Ohio, since we are the Buckeye state!? I cringe at the thought of the Ohio State Buckeyes being named after a butterfly, though! LOL. Another gorgeous shot, Sandi.
