Spent some time at the Calendar gardens today. This is my first ever action shot of a butterfly in mid air. I tried to clone out the long light spot below him, but could not pull that off, and have it look right. I also did a lot of cropping and this size seemed to look the best.

Thank you for your comments my friends.

In any event it's unique. The DOF cuts right down the center between the antennae.
Very nice, Sandi.

It looks like a helicopter landing, Tigz.
Sweet shot.

It reminds me of Batman swooping down to conquer evil. That lone light is the Bat signal. I'm just trying to be funny but joking aside you did a good job Tigs.

I'm getting more and more irritated with you, Tigs. Your shots get smaller and smaller as your borders get larger and larger. It's hard enough to make a living at stealing and selling your shots, but this is getting ridiculous. I'm so mad that I'll only make a single comment about the image itself. First of all, I don't see the problem you referenced in the spacing. Looks fine to me. Your only problem was in your timing. You need that new machine gun software added to your camera. It enables you to snaps off shots at such a rate that even the largest memory card will fill up in two seconds. Additionally, I'm surprised at the quality in the clarity department given the difficulty of the shot. While there's a drop of motion blur at the wing's edge, it actually adds to the action. This is basically the opposite of your shot of the helicopter which appeared to have unmoving blades. Also the colors are perfect.

On an unrelated note, I'm not sure how you can tell that this is an Eastern Black Swallowtail. I know for a fact that the Western Black Swallowtail ambles and that the Eastern Black Swallowtail sashays. With this guy still in the air, how can you possibly distinguish between the two.

Like our own double individual, Roger, I am also getting irritated with the multitude of exquisite butterfly pics being produced by yourself, dear SAS.
Why not try something less nervous like rocks, railway stations or nature morte as the French say and as I say when I feel upset LOL Perhaps my state of mind might improve but the artistic impressions of the total community would certainly suffer....
So torment me, please !
