I know to some that title is a baseball reference but to me it's opening day of the 2014 pansy season. I grow them in the spring and fall and this is a shot of one from the new springs ones just purchased today. This is from the Matrix Series and is called Coastal Sunrise. The name pansy is derived from the French word pensee’ meaning “thought”, and was so named because the blotched flower resembles a human face. Because of this the pansy has long been a symbol of free thought. Maybe that's why I love them. Also because they grow well facing north and prefer cool weather

It could serve as both if you admit the Cubs are Pansies, Kathy. :)
Wonderful shot and I do like pansies in the flower field.
Cardinals in the Baseball Field.

In Holland we call them 'viootjes'. 'Viooltjes' can be translated literally in two ways 1. Little violins; 2. Violets. Think the latter one is more appropriate.

Very nice image of this new pansy species Kathy.

Very pretty, Kathy, I can see the face as if there were eyes just above the nose, moustache and beard.

Now in Polish pansies are "bratki" which as you see means little brothers or some naughty citizens when one is addressed: "Hey, you bratek, come here and apologise to the lady for spilling beer on her skirt" or"Now you bratek go to jail".
Kathy's bratek has the best intentions and means well and he is shy and blushing modestly.
Beautiful bratek, good bratek.:)

The very reason for the pansy opening is to be plunked down in front of the TV to watch Opening Day baseball! I hope that's what you did, Kathy. LOL. Beautiful foofy and shot!

Opening Day had been indefinitely delayed in this region. I hope the new season has no doping scandals like last year when it was disclosed that old lady Wilkinson was using pesticides on her prize winning petunias.
A lovely close up on your pansy. Good details and colours in the image.
