Plectranthus, with some 85 species, is a genus of herbaceous perennial plants, sometimes with a tuberous base. Common names include spur-flower. Plectranthus species are found in Southern and Tropical Africa and Madagascar, and one in Sri Lanka.(from Wikipedia) This variety is called Mona Lavender and it received the Royal Horticultural Society Medal for Garden Merit. I've seen these several times this fall and decided to get a shot - before I researched I had not heard of them before.

Kathy, I know only some of the many species of the Plectranthus, like the Plectranthus forsteri and the Plectranthus madagascariensis. I haven't these species in my house or in my garden however, but saw them in a plant grower shop.
I haven't seen in real the by you perfectly depicted species.
Wonderful capture, very well taken!

Such a pretty colour, and you have captured it beautifully Kathy. . I am more familiar with the white variety (Plectranthus ciliatus). It was introduced to New Zealand from South Africa. Beware if you plant it - it is a prolific spreader and here is is labeled a pest plant, making it illegal to sell, purchase or propagate !

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

A very inviting flower, Kathy, one that I have not heard of before, but the purple and white striping I see in the stamen makes it a standout, but I have a suggestion to capitalize on the potential in a second version. If you look to the exact center of the photo, then move a little towards the bottom right corner, you reach a spot where several flowers and their stamen have particularly sharp focus, completing a cluster of objects with a nice balance of good DOF and bokeh. I think if you were to crop way in to the two sharpest blossoms in that area, then (if you are using Photoshop) run it through a poster-edge filter, the result would refine the full photo down to a choice selection.

Just a thought.
