An interesting type of hydrangea with larger flowers surrounding a flat area of smaller flowers. I've not seen one before where the smaller flowers will be of mixed colors. They usually match the outer flowers. My foofy for this Friday.

Kathy, I've read this on the net:
"From the standpoint of flower morphology, hydrangeas can be divided into two main groups: those that produce mop-heads and those that produce lace-caps. Mop-head flowers are large, round and billowy. As the name implies, they somewhat resemble the head of a mop. What appears to be flower petals actually are showy bracts that subtend small, sterile flowers. Alternatively, lace-cap flowers are round and flat. The name is derived from their similarity in appearance to a flat cap (hat) with frilly edges. Flower-heads have small, fertile flowers in their center, surrounded by outer rings of larger, sterile flowers containing showy bracts. Panicle-flowered hydrangeas differ slightly in morphology from either of the above but, most often, are grouped with the mop-heads."

Your Foofy Friday (F²) contribution is an excellent visualization of a lace-cap hydrangea. I love the subtle colors of this variant!

Beautiful, you managed to get the surrounding flowers all in focus as well. Thanks Cornelius for the explanation.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
