I'm posting this today with sadness as on Monday they are to begin tearing down Arlington Park Racetrack. This was the first racetrack I ever went to when I was 14 with my folks and my brother - they are all gone now - so to see the track go is difficult. My late husband and 2 other couples we worked with for years used to have lunch and a day at the races there every summer after we retired. The property has been sold to the Chicago Bears who may build a new football stadium there - it is a very large property in Arlington Heights IL. We'll see if that stadium ever gets built - meanwhile this is the soaring grandstand one last time!

Kathy, as a non-American, I was unaware that the Arlington International Racecourse - located in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois - was doomed to disappear.
But your beautiful capture and your informative narrative piqued my interest, so I was looking for further information on the web and have found THIS .
Too bad it's going to be demolished. If things go according the current practice in my small country, it will take years (mainly due to objections) before the new facility is realized.
When the demolition finally will have been completed, you will only have your photograph of this facility. If you are going to watch this one in the future, it will surely bring nostalgia to you.

It is sad when such a fond memory no longer has a place in our realities but now rests with other good times in your heart and soul. Keep them safe and available to pull out anytime you wish to feel them again.

Arlington Park is one of those places that I assumed would always be there. The Bears have needed a new stadium for 50 years, but it doesn't seem right to tear down a landmark.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
