Website ToDo list

Submitted by caedes 10/20/09 1:54 AM GMT

I've created a poll designed to help prioritize changes, updates, features, and bug fixes for caedes.net from the member's perspective. I will periodically go here to find something to work on (starting with the most popular requests). I can't promise I'll be able to do everything, but it can't hurt to ask.

Not sure if it's just my browser (safari for iphone) but the text is running together and some lines are unreadable.

Add it to the todo list ;-)

How about...
allowing carriage-returns
multiple spaces
tabs (defined as 10 spaces...)
:o)
In all areas of text entry... if for some security reason you can't, then perhaps some semblance of consistency of what exactly is allowed and what isn't... ie. carriage-returns are allowed here but not in file descriptions or other msg areas.

The text below is how I typed in the above (using CRs & Spaces) text

The browser text problems are more an issue of your settings, I think. But it wouldn't hurt to drop Mozilla a line to let them know about this, just in case it's a download glitch instead. Personally, I don't have any issues with the text, but do have a suggestion for the site.
When answering messages, I have to go through the slow process of copying the other person's message, pasting it in, then deleting it, just so I can answer without forgetting half of what they wrote.
What would be nice is, instead of going to a separate page when you click "respond", it would be nice if a response box either opened up, or was there permanently for you to type in your response or first message, click send, and stay on the same page. A social site I'm on, Tagged, does it that way. The message sent to you is on top, the response area is below. You type your message in, hit send, and you're pretty much done. It DOES go to another page to confirm the message was sent, but you click OK and it takes you right back to where you were. You can then delete it or go on to the next message. Makes it very easy to get through them fast.

OK, try this and see if it helps you. Go to the top of your browser's tool bar. At the very top, under the title of the page you're viewing, you should see some selections such as File, Edit, View. I'm using Mozilla Firefox, so Internet Explorer, Opera or others may look slightly different, but you should still be able to find everything.
Click "View" and look for "Character Encoding" in the drop-down menu. When you highlight that, a sub-menu will appear. Check to see if "Auto Detect" is on, or if there's something else that has a bullet beside it in the lower section. If I remember correctly, all US users should be set on Western (ISO-8859-1). If you ARE set on that and still having problems, check to see if Auto-detect is off. If it's on, turn it off and see if that helps. If it doesn't, try one of the other settings such as Unicode (UTF-8). But be careful. You might find some unexpected results. And make sure to undo what you did if it doesn't give you what you wanted.

I am in FF (latest version) with Auto OFF and Western (ISO-etc) and Page Style set to Basic. If I make any changes (one at a time) either nothing happens or things get worse. I would hazard a guess that the problem is with the coding of 'caedes in displaying the suggested topics (there is greying now that wasn't there before) so everybody should just be patient and wait for the needed changes to be made. Rome wasn't built in a day or so they say! If we over-react to little problems, we will surely be telling 'caedes not to make any changes (improvements!) :o)

You know, I did something just now that I should have done before. I found the page that we're all talking about, realized the lines DO overlap on mine too ( got myself unstuck from stupid, I guess). But I looked at the page source, which is where all those cool HTML codes hide. That's that bunch of gibberish that web site designers do that makes the page look the way you want.
This isn't a browser setting issue. Con's right, this is most likely a coding issue. So in other words, we can't do a darned thing about it-- it needs to be corrected by the web designer or site owner, whoever has access to the HTML code source.

Well, I suppose this post will be perceived by some (not necessarily directed at the people I am going to address in my following words) as my having towed the company line. So be it, too difficult with this medium of words alone to convey all sentiments. But, try ... I shall.

@Robert:

I am writing to you here, because you have been quite kind, gracious and supportive in your commenting on my images. Perhaps, I failed to convey this to you in not having personally addressed your remarks via some more personal words placed on your profile page. Sincerely did not mean to give you the impression that you were disposable, nor unappreciated.

One of the hallmarks (in my humble opinion, of course) of 'success' on this site, or a gauge as to how well received your work is ... is that of new faces appearing on your image's pages.

In reading your post, I can't quite get from point A to point B, meaning, what you are directly inferring ... is not readily apparent to my mind. And I quote;

"It seems that caedes wants to eliminate all users but artists. If you want to become a corp of elitists ..."

/\ Leaves me scratching my head, as to the 'where' you decided to place your words (this discussion thread), as this is the place to suggest changes that 'you' wish or would like to see take place or be implemented. So, I am left thinking that I am not successfully reading between your lines here.

I say 'reading between the lines' to underscore the point that I simply do not understand your consternation(s).

Would you care to elaborate some?

Be a shame to leave and not having been understood, as to the 'why' you left in the first place. Again, simply put.

@Mark:

Can echo parts of my address to Robert, once again.

"Be a shame to leave and not having been understood, as to the 'why' you left in the first place."

Buried on this page, are some words from *caedes I came across and in reading them ... a number of things finally fell into place for me personally.

The site is set up for any and all to participate as they see fit, time and opportunity permitting, and expended. Free registration and free posting of your images (with some restrictions) ... so ...

It comes down to 'you' (not 'you' you, Mark ... just speaking generally here) as to how much or little, you will get out of your participation on the site.

Closing remark ... can once again, echo some of my above words ...

'Would you care to elaborate some, Mark?'

@Bill:

That would be an excellent suggestion/request to make, Bill. That of watermarking images here on the site.

In reading through the options/suggestions/features/bugs put forth to address on the poll ... that poll is found here ... I am kind of, sort of ... surprised at the lack of depth to some of them (again, my humble opinion and perspective here ... nothing more, nor 'les's :oP).

Somewhat surprised, that is.

As a number of issues have been debated/discussed on discussion threads found scattered throughout and on the site ... and seem to have taken a back seat. Seem to have, that is. Perhaps, out of sight ... out of mind?

However, and with that said ... the poll is 'a wish list' of sorts ... so ... why not wish away?

Perhaps, placing something along the lines of what you are mentioning here as one of the options to be looked at ... might gain more support and head to the top of that wish list. I strongly urge you to do so, Bill.

Soooooo ... how 'bout those New York Yankees? Are they finally rallying?

:oP
