Caedes

Artist Spotlight #55

Submitted by mimi 01/08/11 6:25 AM GMT

As we kick of the New Year, allow me to intoduce the first artist of 2011: WENPEDER (also known around here as Wen). She does unique Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). Take some time to visit her gallery, peruse her images, and grow comfy with CGI!

I can't tell you the pride and joy I felt when mimi informed me that my gallery was selected by Caedes peers to be showcased on Caedes. What an honor! I've sat in awe of the work of artists here for a number of years now and find participation here a special opportunity to share. Thanks so much!

A little personal background. I was born and raised in "the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant" in Minnesota. [No I'm neither short nor green....] I graduated from high school in 1973, from undergrad school in 1977, with a degree in Psychology and from grad school in the mid-80's with a Masters in Clinical Psychology. Worked full time in the Community Mental Health system in the Twin Cities for about 20 years until an autoimmune disease that had plagued me since adolescence finally forced me to slow down around the turn of the millineum and I began doing Videography and Home Video Production out of my home, something I'd done as a hobby for a number of years before. Never married, though I considered it a couple of times....LOL! I'm still doing the Video work . . . it challenges me intellectually and from a creative standpoint, but it's a costly "hobby-vocation" to stay "up-to-date" with and I'm now about to embark on a small dog breeding business. I built a house a few years ago in a country setting along the riverbank on the outskirts of town and plan to build a kennel in my back yard when the snow melts this spring. What kind of dogs? Pugs.......I'm a Pug lover through and through. This is not altogether new for me as I helped my sister very regularly with a breeding kennel she operated out of her home until recently for a number of years.

Caedes.net. I fell upon this site about a half a dozen years ago in a search for desktop wallpaper and I was totally blown away by it. I only LOOKED for a number of months and then finally got the nerve to upload a picture of my dog. LOL! I've always enjoyed art. Found it a welcome diversion in College and have tested my hand at everything from drawing to painting to sculpture and lots in between. When I found Caedes I was already doing VIDEO production work and was fairly handy with computer art software but it was Caedes that opened the world of Computer Generated imagery to me and I'm so thankful for that! So many artists here helped me over the past several years...offering tips on HOW TO figure out various software to suggestions on image composition and design. I've never met a group of folks more eager to share and help fellow artists grow and I think that this is what makes this community so special. I've focused my energies here primarily on Abstracts and Computer 3D and have tried my hand at lots of different programs (Apophysis, TieraZon, Sterlingware, Terragen, Ultra Fractal, Vue, Bryce, etc.) ...........I like to vary my work but must admit that I've drifted more and more into Computer 3D work and Landscapes. I drift in and out of this community depending on how much extra time I have to create and enjoy the creations of others. Wish I had more time - - don't we all?

My personal favorite image(s)? As I'm sure everyone here can relate, each image involves its own evolution and story. That process is what I love about art. A few that stand out as I file through my Gallery here include the image "Centered," "Reflecting on Shadows" and "Dawn (Revisited)" - - but there are a number of others that have been challenging from a creative standpoint and it's hard to choose.

I think I've probably rambled enough. Let me say again........I'm so thankful for this community and the opportunity it offers for creating and sharing! Thanks for the honor of recognizing my work in this way! I am truly touched!

Wendy

Excellent news and very well-deserved! I have many of your images (fractals and 3D) in my Favourites gallery and on my desktop. It is hard to choose, but among my favourites are Far Away Cove, Vantage Point and Oh Happy Days! If I keep looking, the list will be never-ending, so I better stop now. :-)

Congratulations, I love pouring thru your gallery. My favorite is Dreamscape, but there are so many images that I put up full screen and gaze at for hours.

Well, is my face red..

Given the quality of your work, that I've enjoyed over the years ... thought you had already been given the nod as a showcased artist.

At least now that has been rectified and rightfully so. :o)

Congratulations, Wen.

Two of my favs from your galleries would be:

"The Corridor"

"Variation on the Theme (Version 2)"

That said..

I hope you find some creative time to grace us with many more of your fine works in the years to come. (Think of it as striving towards the goal of 'Artist Spotlight v.2'. ;o) )

Enjoy your time in the limelight. :o)

Your work as a computer generated image is very nice but I come from the old school that says photography should be done mostly at the camera. It is very scary to me all of the computer generated images that we see today on this website & others...one has to spend much more time trying to figure out if it is real or not. I remember just a few years ago when I was involved with the judging of pictures for N4C & Omaha Camera Club...along with other judging of pictures nationally..it was very concerning for all of us where photography was going & where it had come from. I can see on this website some pictures that are excellent....90 percent achieved from the camera & 10 percent from the computer....we need to go back to those days... make categories on how that particular picture was taken & with what!!!!

Congratulations Wendy - most deserving. You gallery is a treasure trove of your talent that takes us to places of great imagination and beauty.
I enjoyed reading your bio and wish you well in your Pug venture:)

My favourite from your gallery varies - right now it is Over The Edge - intriguing, and bit mystifying and very beautiful.

Enjoy your spotlight :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Congratulations Wendy. Over the years I have enjoyed many of your outstanding works of art and I hope there are many more years of pictures yet to come.

A couple of my favorites of your work would be "Golden Globes" and "Solitude." I am sure an enterprising individual could make a wonderful screensaver of delightful WENPEDERs.

Congrats again! ~~ John
