I saw this beauty while on the way to my Grandson's football game last week. Roanoke is just a spot in the road and I almost missed it. This is Missouri not Virginian by the way. The town is so small that it's not even included in the population census.
I did find the following information: As far as we can tell, Roanoke has not been included in past Census counts, so there is no population information for this community. To help identify the number of people who live in Roanoke and the surrounding area, we have drawn concentric rings centered on Roanoke. We counted the number of communities within each ring and summed their populations. We don't have the population of Roanoke, so its people haven't been included. The first settlement at Roanoke was made in 1836. The community took its name from Roanoke Plantation, in Virginia, the native state of a first settler. A post office was established on the Randolph County side in 1838, where it remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1871. Like I said, a spot in the road.
I thought it fit perfectly for Dick Clark's American Bandstand. You old rockers will remember. I don't think Clark aged a day in all the years he hosted the show. I think this song captures the essence of the show. It is my entry for SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES and, or TV Show. Rock on my friends!
I do like this architecture...it is reminiciense of an old time bandstand....
