The Colin de Californie (Callipepla californica), sometimes called "California Quail" is a species of bird belonging to the galliform family Odontophoridae.

I have never seen such a bird either, not because it's a very shy one but because (as far as I know) it lives only at the west coast of the USA (California area: therefore it has its name) and in Zoos.

It must use the feather for wind direction, Christian.
Probably something to do with its radar. :)
