The Joyce Hale was built in 1980 in St.Louis, MO . She is 157.5 feet long and 45 feet wide . In January 2010, the 6,000-hp boat and its tow struck an interstate highway bridge that crosses the river at Caruthersville, Mo., causing its 20 loaded barges to break free. Her home port is Philadelphia, PA . She is a regular sight up and down the length of the Mississippi River . Dan and I were lucky to see her on the river in Louisiana while we were riding a ferry . I love tow and tug boats and while this does not do her justice ... here she is , she is quite impressive in person . When I see any type of a ship/boat , Cornelius and Raj always come to mind .

That is One Big Tug Marsha. You and Dan are truly risk takers.
I was once on a Ferry some 40 Plus years ago that was struck by a ship in the Mississippi River near Luling, Louisiana. The Ferry Nearly Capsized. It seems the Captain could not control the Ferry against the Swift Currents forcing the ferry into the path of the on coming ship. Everyone aboard could see what was coming. Talk about your life flashing before your EYES?! Do not care to ride one again.

I think of SEA and Raj as well when I see boats/ships JenNay.
A good capture and I remember reading about the accident.

She is a big one and I see she belongs to Archer Daniel Midlands out of Decatur Il. Well taken Marsha - I assume they transport grain.

---When I see any type of a ship/boat , Cornelius and Raj always come to mind---

That's very nice Marsha. Thanks!

When I see however a seagoing ship or vessel again, something else comes to my mind. On the one hand I remind my wonderful and never boring career, but on the other hand I realize that I hadn't a normal family life. It was pretty rare when I was at home at Christmas. My children were raised by my late dear wife, and she has done this in a wonderful way. On board, it was me who was in charge, but at home she was the captain, lol.

Thanks for this fine image bringing back some mixed memories.

Regards, Cornelius, aka SEA.
