Evening sun on Manuka trees. . Manuka is abundant throughout New Zealand. Captain Cook used this plant to make tea, as he liked the bitter taste, hence its other common name of Tea-tree. Medicinal uses have been known for over 1000 years. An infusion of the bark was used externally and internally as a sedative. It was also used for scalds and burns. The ash from the bark was rubbed onto the skin to treat skin diseases, and vapour from leaves boiled in water was used for colds. . . .Recent research has proved many of these remedies, and tea tree oil is widely valued. . . I really like the golden sidelight you captured. So this is what I have been using for the occasional dry skin in winter. It really does work well. Beautiful capture.

A friend of mine works in a camera store. The other day a very confused looking woman approached the counter and handed my friend a camera. She said "I took pictures, but I forgot to have film in the camera. Can you please get them out of the camera for me?"

Beautiful - strange to see the trees on a podest like that. Internally as a sedative? - hmm - Old Capt. Cook had no GPS but now I know why he took the wrong route sometimes :)

Such a beautiful tree with many medicinal qualities. Wish I had one of these! LOL I'll keep the image though since the setting, the lighting and the graceful form of the tree make such a wonderful picture.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Nice evening glow in your capture. Interesting narrative. With trees like this all over the place you probably don't need many doctors in NZ.

Nice, Eve, and thanks for all the info. I'd heard of tea tree oil, but not the honey. Interesting article.

Besides the fact this image has a great composition and beautifully captured light in these gorgeous copper colors, what I like the most about it (and about a lot of your images) is that it has a specific “mood” and the style is more narrative, than simply visual. Very, very well done!
