Suddenly . . this appeared in a clear blue sky. Pure white at first - by the time I grabbed my camera the setting sun had reflected its colours on it.

Very very new to this, and only have a bog standard fuji 2mb digi camera.
Well I'm glad your camera wasn't anywhere nearby because this is such a great shot. I really like the balance between the brilliant blue sky and the dark trees at the bottom...and of course, those clouds!! It looks like an explosion...but a good one!

Very unusual sky image. First saw this in the VB. Wasn't sure what I was looking at till viewed full screen and became fascinated. Came here to read your description. Quite a spur of the moment capture Eve ... just fascinating and well captured.

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.
Got this in the voting booth. I wasn't sure if it was some kind of explosion or volcanic eruption. It was very dramatic scene with the clouds and the lighting of the sun. Gave it a 10. I think it's beautiful!
