My most favourite view in the world.
This is Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu with The Remarkables Mountains behind, in New Zealand's South Island.
The lake is a glacial one and because of its shape,it has a 'tide' (a large seiche or "standing wave"), which causes the water to rise and fall about 10 centimetres every 25 minutes. Maori legend links this phenomenon to the heartbeat of a huge monster named Matau, slumbering at the bottom of the lake.It is one of the worlds deepest lakes at 420 meters.
The Remarkables were the mountains in Lord Of The Rings.
It takes about an hour of very steep climbing to reach this height - but I got there on the Skyline Gondola which is much faster an a geat deal easier :)
This is the reason we traveled through the Lindis Pass (in my earlier posts) I have been here numerous times but never tire of its beauty.
Taken with my Panasonic tz60. It was difficult to keep a steady hand as it was extremely windy - evident by the wide ripples in the water.
