Some more of the Irises growing near the garden plaque I posted recently. The wall is made from Oamaru Stone, sometimes called Whitestone.(Its a limestone) It is quarried locally and has been used as a building material since just after the affluent gold-rush days of the 1860's until the present day. Many of my town's oldest and most beautiful buildings are made from it and also the office where I work - it is a modern building but has some skillfully carved decoration included as a tribute to our area heritage. It is also highly prized as a sculpting material

Lyn, limestone is little or not used in my country. So I may be wrong in assuming I see the sawing patterns of the saw that cut the limestones.
However, fine textures that match the beautiful iris foreground.

I love the configuration of these stunning Irises against the limestone, the light is favorable, the composition excels, a very satisfying scene to view. Favorite.

Now these are the kind of irises we have here on the American northern plains, very different from those bright blue and yellow ones you posted last month. Takes me back to the first apartment my wife and I had; a large semicircular patch of them out front.
