I took this one mostly because of the prickly pear tree by the front porch. In my part of the world, prickly pear gets killed back, so it grows low to the ground. I've seen some as bushes in more gentle climates, but this is the only time I've seen it as a tree. It has buds on it. The yellow barrel is a water storage. It keeps the water pressure even in the house, despite temperamental water supplies.

It looks like someone ran out of their sandals Jeff. For those of us that complain about water pressure in showers when we stay at a hotel/motel--keep this photo in mind.

Yeah, we have prickly pear up here in the Dakotas as well, I recognize the flower, but had never considered the possibility they could get this big... too much ice and snow, I'm thinkin.' The practicality of this scene reminds me of bus or taxi stops I saw in the Philippine Islands... a three-sided tin shack with a bench inside, the structure framed on each side by a giant boulder, with a thick steel cable wrapped around each and across the top of the shack... so it wouldn't blow away in a typhoon. You're giving us a tour of southwest Asia, Jeff, and saving us the price of a ticket.
